Introducing our newest source of local garlic – Rogue Barefoot Farms. Stephen Greene grows tomatoes, garlic, and other veggies up the Rogue River outside of Gold Beach using strict organic practices (although he is not certified). Many of you will know him from the Brookings-Harbor Farmers’ Market or the Boat House in Gold Beach: he sells regularly at both locations.
Stephen is sharing his German Red with us this season. It’s a soft neck and will keep in storage for, on average, about 6 months. German Red is a full-bodied, strong and spicy garlic that reliably produces large, satiny white and purple heads. The easy-to-peel cloves are wrapped in fawn colored skins. A widely popular variety that sets the standard for true garlic flavor.
