Description
Meyer Orchards grows many acres of pears in Talent, Oregon (the Rogue Valley). And if you’re looking to can pears, none can beat the Bartlett Pear as a fantastic fruit to can!
The first pear of the season is the Bartlett. Bartletts start out green and hard (like ALL pears), and turn yellow as they ripen. OtterBee’s carries 40-pound “Fancy Grade” cases for those of you who want to put up jars for winter. Note: graded pears can be a bit more expensive than “field run” (non-sorted) pears, but the benefit is, all the pears are approximately the same size, so they’re much easier to process.
Bartletts are great for eating, canning and drying. Ron Meyer grows all his fruit using IPM practices.
