We’re thrilled to carry Alexandre Family Farm milk and dairy products here at OtterBee’s Market. Not just because it tastes incredible (which it does), but because every bottle tells the story of a local, regenerative farm doing things the right way—slowly, thoughtfully, and with deep respect for land, animals, and people.
Tucked into the lush, foggy pastures of Smith River, CA, Alexandre Family Farm is a model for how farming can work with nature rather than against it. The farm’s commitment to soil health, animal welfare, and nutrient-dense food has earned it national recognition, and it all starts with what’s inside the bottle.
More Than Organic: Regenerative Roots
Blake and Stephanie Alexandre run the first certified regenerative organic dairy in the U.S. and they didn’t get there by accident. From the very beginning, the Alexandres have focused on soil-first farming, where healthy soil grows healthy grass, which nourishes healthy cows. Their cows graze 365 days a year on rotating pastures, and the land is never tilled. Instead, it’s enriched through composting, cover cropping, and careful grazing rotation; practices that store carbon, boost biodiversity, and fight climate change.
The Power of A2/A2 Milk
Alexandre Family Farm milk is 100% A2/A2, meaning it contains only the A2 beta-casein protein, a type of protein many people find easier to digest than conventional A1/A2 milk. It’s milk the way nature intended—rich, creamy, and gentle on the stomach.
“It’s not going to happen overnight, but in 20, 30 years I think all milk will be A2, or pretty close,” says Stephanie Alexandre, “It’s changing the industry.”
Their cows are specifically bred for this trait, and their mixed herd includes genetics from New Zealand Kiwi Cross, German Fleckvieh, Danish Jersey, Dutch Holstein, and New Zealand Ayrshire. The result? A pasture-optimized cow that thrives on open grassland and produces high-butterfat, nutrient-rich milk with a calm temperament and strong feet made for grazing.
Old-Fashioned Farming, Cutting-Edge Science
The Alexandre family often says they farm “the old-fashioned way”—and it’s true, in all the right ways. But their approach is anything but stuck in the past. They’ve paired time-tested traditions with modern science, embracing rotational grazing, soil testing, and composting techniques that turn waste into fertility. The result is a farm that not only produces exceptional milk but also nurtures biodiversity, especially bird life, across their fields. They regularly monitor pasture growth, track the impact of regenerative methods on animal and soil health, and collaborate with researchers to refine their practices.
“When you use cows to ‘cut’ the grass, and fertilize it, and you don’t expose the roots by plowing, you create a cycle of carbon sequestration,” Blake Alexandre explains. Thanks to these methods, their thousands of acres of pasture can absorb an estimated 50 tons of carbon each day.
Alexandre Family Farm has become a model in the industry, proof that animal welfare, environmental restoration, and rural family living can go hand in hand. This isn’t just about honoring the past. It’s about building a future where farms are healthier, more resilient, and part of the climate solution.
Packaged with Purpose
Even their packaging reflects their commitment to quality. Alexandre Family Farm milk comes in PET plastic bottles—a 100% recyclable, BPA-free material that includes built-in UV protection to prevent oxidation and preserve freshness. The classic-style bottle neck protects the delicate cream top during transit, reviving a bottle design that worked for generations.
