Sweet, vine-ripened Cantaloupes are coming to you this season from Norm Lehne Garden & Orchard (Roseburg). Each should weigh around 3 lbs., and will keep for most of the week if uncut. Once cut, refrigerate in an airtight container for 2-3 days max.
Cantaloupe are generally fragrant when ripe, and the end (where the stem was) will yield to slight pressure. If unripe, ripen at room temperature (uncut) for about 4-5 days. Or use the faster brown bag method: put the cantaloupe in a paper bag, add some ethylene-producing fruits such as apples and bananas, close the bag, and store at room temperature out of direct sunlight for 1-3 days. Make sure you check the bag daily!
