Prized for its use in tomato paste and sauces, Roma Tomatoes are a thick-walled, meaty, bright red, egg-shaped tomatoes about 3 inches long and with few seeds. This tomato is not juicy, nor is this a “slicing tomato”. Instead, the flesh is thick and drier so that it will cook down into a thick sauce (cooking intensifies the flavor, too.) If you can tomatoes, make your own spaghetti sauce, or like to chop a tomato into an omelet, this is the tomato for you!
Norm Lehne Garden & Orchards in Roseburg grows these Romas alongside the ever popular Beefsteak Tomato, and just like the Beefsteaks, Lehne’s Romas give you that real, field-ripened, ripe tomato flavor! Lehne’s is family-owned and operated, and located about 170 driving miles away (100 miles as the crow flies) in the farm and ranch fields just west of Roseburg. They grow their tomatoes using “Integrated Pest Management” practices, operate a farm stand, and offer u-pick options during the summer.
