This year (for the first time ever!) we can bring you fresh, local Rhubarb from Norm Lehne Garden & Orchards (Roseburg). Lehne’s grows their rhubarb using organic practices.
“Victoria” Rhubarb was introduced in honor of Queen Victoria in 1837, making it an heirloom variety. Its leaves are large, deep green, and leafy with pink, red, and green veining. Its large, fat, tender stems have bright red skin with a tart, apple-gooseberry flavor and absolutely zero stringiness.
Lehne also grows a more red variety that they came across while living in Vancouver…so that’s what Glen named it! “Vancouver” Rhubarb ripens a bit later than Victoria: depending on when in the spring you order, you’ll get one or the other. They both have that classic sour rhubarb taste – Victoria is greener and thinner, while Vancouver is redder with a wider stock.
