Description
The Shiro Plum is the second of the “stone fruits” that Norm Lehne Garden & Orchards (Roseburg) grows (following their Bing & Rainier Cherries); they also grow peaches and nectarines, both of which will follow in August.
Shiro Plums are oval-shaped stone fruits (meaning they have a single inner seed or pit) that are a golden yellow color when ripe. They grow to around 2.5 centimeters in diameter. Shiro plums ripen from green to yellow, sometimes with a faint pink blush. The outer skin is thin and tart in taste. The inner skin is golden-yellow and semi-transparent. Shiro Plums are soft, juicy and moderately sweet with very little acidity. They are classified as clingstones, which means that removing the stone requires a little work.
When you order, you will get approximately 1-1/2 pounds of tree-ripened plums. Norm Lehne Garden & Orchards grows all their fruit using the “IPM” growing method – click this link to learn more about this type of sustainable farming.
