Lettuce: Hydroponic (each)

Umbrella Farms (Brookings)

Out of stock

This Lettuce is grown with organic methods in a closed-loop, hydroponics facility by Umbrella Farms, a new grower right here in Brookings, Oregon. Umbrella specializes in organic, hydroponic lettuces and unique crops, grown right on the coast for maximum freshness and nutrition.

Stored in your crisper (preferably in a lettuce keeper), these heads will keep for at least a week – just make sure they stay hydrated. Varieties can include Red Romaine, Green Romaine, Blackseed Leaf, and Buttercrunch, depending on each variety’s peak harvest time.

So what is Hydraponics? Hydroponics is the technique of growing plants using a water-based nutrient solution rather than soil. Hydroponic production systems are used by small farmers, hobbyists, and commercial enterprises. According to the USDA: “Growing plants in water culture or sand culture without soil are procedures that have been used…for more than a century.” (Growing Crops Without Soil. Beltsville, MD: USDA, rev 1965.)

This growing system fosters rapid growth, stronger yields, and superior quality. As for the level of nutrition: the vitamin content of favorite vegetables is standard, no matter the growing method used, while veggies grown in a well-designed and scientifically formulated hydroponic system will have essentially the same mineral content as soil-grown plants.
