Description
Elephant Heart plums are a favorite late plum at Beebe Farms in Central Point (the Rogue Valley).
These are large, baseball-size plums. This variety was developed by Luther Burbank and introduced to home gardeners by Stark Bro’s in 1929, making it an heirloom variety. It’s sometimes called the “blood plum” because of its dark-red flesh.
The fruit is juicy and flavorful – PLUS it’s a freestone, making it excellent for eating fresh or for canning. It usually ripens at Beebe’s sometime in September. Beebe uses IPM methods to grow their stone fruits.
